Pastoral monitoring bulletin for Senegal – December 2025 – January 2026

  • The overall agro-pastoral situation is favorable, with a good condition
    weight gain in animals at the beginning of the dry season
  • Progressive degradation of pastures observed in the north and north-central areas
    marking the beginning of the pastoral lean season
  • Water availability is generally satisfactory, but there are pockets of
    persistent vulnerabilities in the Ferlo
  • Intensification of north-south transhumance movements, leading to
    increasing pressure on reception areas
  • Markets that favor farmers in the short term, with prices of
    Livestock prices are generally high, and cereals are declining.
  • Terms of trade generally favorable, particularly in the
    central and southern parts of the surveillance zone
  • Early signs of tension in the north (Saint-Louis, Louga, Matam):
    pastoral pressure, cattle theft and limited access to support
  • Livestock feed prices are still affordable, but there is a risk of increase.
