For Pastoralism – Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger (ACF) supports pastoral communities in several West and Central African countries, responding to complex challenges such as food insecurity, conflicts over access to natural resources, the impacts of climate change and a fragile security situation, in addition to contributing to the production of information on pastoralism..

These interventions aim to strengthen the resilience and food security of these communities through an integrated approach encompassing direct assistance, capacity building and advocacy actions.

For Pastoralism – Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger supports pastoral communities in several countries across West and Central Africa, addressing complex challenges such as food insecurity, conflicts related to access to natural resources, the impacts of climate change, and a fragile security situation, in addition to contributing to the production of information on pastoralism.

These interventions aim to enhance the resilience and food security of these communities through an integrated approach that encompasses direct assistance, capacity building, and advocacy actions.

Biomass production analysis report in 2024 in northern Côte d’Ivoire

  • Rainy season generally poor in the northern regions, marked by a late start and early end of the rains and some extreme rains leading to flooding in certain localities
  • Biomass production well below normal in northern Côte d’Ivoire, with the lowest annual production recorded in 25 years in some places
  • Deterioration of the security situation in the Sahel leading to an increase in the flow of transhumant herders from Burkina Faso and Mali to the main refugee-hosting departments in the north of Côte d’Ivoire

Analysis report on biomass production in 2024 in the Sahel

  • Significant rainfall received, particularly in the Sahel countries
  • Good biomass production in the Sahelian zone of West Africa overall
  • Biomass production significantly above normal in Central Sahel
  • Average to low biomass production on the western coast and coastal countries
  • Low exposure of the region to vulnerability related to biomass
  • Runoff above normal levels, causing significant flooding
  • Security context severely hindering the mobility of herds and access to pastures and water resources in Central Sahel, in addition to mobility restrictions towards coastal countries, particularly Benin and Togo
  • Significant movements of displaced populations with livestock in several areas of the region
